I have been on a spiritual path for over 25 years but I never thought I would end up becoming a teacher. In fact, for many years I worked in corporate organizations, the government and as an entrepreneur.
At the age of 23, I had already completed my bachelor's degree in Mexico and my master's degree in the UK, graduating in both with honors.
As soon as I finished my studies, I was immediately hired as Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Rural Development in Mexico.
With a promising career ahead of me, I was the pride of my family and the envy of friends and colleagues...
On the one hand, I was looking for inner peace.
Being a hard-working and fairly driven person, I always struggled to bring a sense of presence and calm into my work. I would work for long hours, too fast, and inevitably, I would end up stressed, exhausted and getting ill.
Also, negative emotions would often get the better of me. I would lose my temper and get angry about small, stupid details. Moreover, I was emotionally very insecure. It was challenging for me to make friends and to hang out with people.
On the other, I was looking for the Truth.
Having been brought up as a Catholic, certain phrases such as “The kingdom of heaven is within you,” “Be still and know that I am God,” and “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” would stir something in me whenever I heard them.
I wanted to understand the real meaning of these words. Somehow I knew that they were pointing to a living reality. Sadly, among the many priests I heard in Sunday mass, I did not find any real wisdom or guidance that could help me experience what these phrases referred to.
So, I was eager to have the experience of God and find the kingdom of heaven, but I was at a loss as to how to do that.
and my search literally took me all over the world.
I started practicing Zen Buddhism. At the age of 27, I left everything behind to live at a Zen monastery where I practiced intensively for two and a half years.
Later, I was privileged to study directly with some of the best spiritual teachers in the world, including Thich Nhat Hanh in France, Barry Long in Australia, Eckhart Tolle in Canada, the Dalai Lama in India, and Mooji in Portugal.
At that time, I had no intention of teaching. I merely wanted to learn how to live with greater harmony, well-being and inner peace.
At the age of 44, I had a profound awakening experience which changed my life forever.
Through this experience, I realized what could be called the true nature behind everything in existence, the very root or source that is behind every being and every thing in the universe.
At that moment, I recognized that our true nature —yours, mine and every thing—, is absolutely perfect, untouchable, timeless, immortal.
I discovered a profound peace which is not affected, in the slightest, by circumstances or problems. Also, a joy that knows no end, a love that extends to every single thing in the world, and a sweet sense of relief freedom from suffering and emotional pain.
For me, the search was finally over. Everything I had been looking for: peace, God, who I am, the purpose of existence, became crystal clear, not as a belief or a mental concept, but as my day-to-day living reality.
At the time of that awakening experience, I thought to myself, “This is the ultimate solution!”
I saw that discovering who you truly are -as well as seeing through what you are not-, is THE solution to be completely free from suffering, unhappiness, and negativity. It is the way to be at peace and to love unconditionally.
